When I was pretty new to the issue of Predatory Gambling, someone recommended that I read Professor Goodman's "The Luck Business."
I remember being struck by the simple logic - Slot Barns quickly exhaust the local supply of potential Gambling Addicts. Pretty simple! And he wrote about much else and forced many of us to consider the issue.
The supply of Gambling Addicts is finite. The novelty quickly fades.
