SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Penn National Gaming, owner of Hollywood Casino in Bangor, on Thursday announced plans for a $807 million casino resort in Springfield, Mass.
The proposal is for a 300,000-square-foot casino with up to 5,000 slot machines, as many as 100 table games and a separate poker room with up to 30 poker tables, according to the company. The proposal also includes a hotel with up to 500 rooms. The casino would be named Hollywood Casino Springfield.
The Springfield casino would dwarf Bangor’s Hollywood Casino, which has 923 slot machines and 16 table games, including nine poker tables. Those slot machines and table games generated more than $5 million in net revenue in September, according to Maine’s Gambling Control Board. [Even with that comparatively small number of Slots, CRIME still rose.]
The company is partnering with Peter Picknelly, CEO of Springfield-based Peter Pan Bus Lines, on the proposal. The company claims the project would generate thousands of new permanent jobs and millions of tax dollars to the Springfield region.
Penn National last month expressed interest in buying a stake in a Maryland casino.
