Two new books just released about predatory gambling and government

I'm writing to encourage you to read two new books that have just been published. The first is the much-anticipated book titled Addiction By Design by MIT's Natasha Schull. You may recall Dr. Schull was the featured interview on 60 Minutes when they aired their landmark investigation into slot machines and government's collusion with gambling interests.

I've read it cover to cover and it may be the best and most important book ever written on this issue. Every public official, every member of the media and every concerned citizen needs to read it.

The relentless promotion of slot machines and other intense forms of gambling now represents the public voice of American government. If any further evidence was needed that government's experiment with gambling has failed, this book ends all doubt.

Everywhere I've been in the last few weeks, I've urged audiences to read it. I hope you will urge your local public officials, media, friends, co-workers and faith leaders to do the same. The time for change has arrived.

The book is for sale in hard cover or in electronic form to read on a Kindle, Nook, etc.. Here is the link.

The second book I want to make you aware of is a novel titled The Curse: Big-Time Gambling's Seduction of a Small New England Town by Robert Steele. While some of the characters are fictional, the story itself is grounded in truth and one that has played out in a thousand regions across the nation.

Steele, a former Congressman from Connecticut, saw "The Curse" unfold firsthand as two of the largest casinos in the world were forced into his state in partnership with government.

While anyone who has ever challenged a casino in their community or state will deeply identify with this story, readers whose conscience has yet to be awakened about the issue will experience how casinos profoundly impact the commercial and social life of a community.
It is available in paperback as well as electronic form. You can find it here.

Thanks for all you do,

Best,
