Stop Predatory Gambling offers commentary worth reading about the decline of horse racing, especially reflecting on the recent attempt of Plainridge to silence opposition to their proposed Slot Barn.

The Plainville/Plainridge process has been fraught with intimidation, bias and a failure to protect the future interests of the small community.

Save the Tracks
Blasting at Plainridge is set to begin AGAIN on October 10th and is threatening
to continue for "about two weeks". For months, the noise from the construction
of the "Garage to Nowhere" has been excruciatingly painful for the neighbors on
Mirimichi Street, Haynes Road and Harness Path. And the drilling and crushing
goes on, six days a week, with the back-up alarms so loud and constant that all
the windows in the house MUST be closed if you don't want to lose your mind.
When the first round of blasting began, NOTHING was ever said about
another round of it down the road. What else does Plainridge have up their
sleeve that they haven't told us about?
How is it that the Planning Board
allowed this to happen to us with ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO ABATE THE NOISE OR TO
PROTECT OR COMPENSATE THE RESIDENTS FOR WHAT THIS IS DOING TO THE QUALITY OF OUR
LIVES AND OUR PEACE OF MIND?
This is simply inhumane. A structure of
this size, that requires so much basting and drilling, should NEVER have been
allowed so close to our homes. We might not always see the rock dust, but we
know it is in the air. We might not always see the exhaust fumes, but we smell
them every day. We might not be able to get the DEP to respond to our pleas for
help regarding excessive noise, but we know it's there because it is eroding our
health and well being.
