Caesars: + 3 Slot Machines per job

Where have we heard this before? Caesars [formally Harrah's] is salivating to invade Boston and destroy the tourism industry. [Studies have determined that Predatory Gambling reduces tourism. Caesars wants to come to Boston because tourists are already here.]

Harrah's, under Gary Loveman's leadership, set the industry standard for tracking its patrons, determining that 90% of their profits originated from 10% of their patrons [that's Gambling Addiction], they tracked, comped, targeted those patrons through their Rewards Program.

Caesars is currently saddled with $20 BILLION in debt, shedding properties for expansion.

Caesars plans to partner with Baltimore hotels, restaurants

Caesars Entertainment Corp.’s new Baltimore casino plans to partner with area hotels and restaurants to serve visitors to the 3,750-slot venue, a Caesars executive said Tuesday.

The programs could include shuttles moving gamblers between downtown hotels and the Harrah’s Baltimore casino south of M&T Bank Stadium. It could also include partnerships so the 40 million gamblers enrolled in Caesars’ “Total Rewards” loyalty-card program could use their points at Baltimore restaurants, said John Payne, Caesars’ president for shared enterprise services.

Harrah’s Baltimore, like Caesar’s newly opened casino in Cleveland, will not include a hotel. That means casino officials will work with local hoteliers to find rooms for guests coming to the casino for overnight stays, boosting hotel occupancy.

Since Caesars’ Cleveland casino, called Horseshoe Casino Cleveland, opened May 14, hotels in the area have seen their occupancy rate rise between 8 percent and 10 percent, Payne said.

Caesars (NASDAQ: CZR) on Tuesday also launched a website, www.caesars.com/baltimore, where job applicants and suppliers can learn about the kinds of opportunities that will be available at Harrah’s Baltimore. Those jobs are expected to be popular.

About 60,000 people applied for 1,600 jobs at Caesars’ new Cleveland casino, Payne said. The hiring process for jobs in Baltimore is expected to start in late 2013.

The casino is expected to generate 2,000 construction jobs and 1,200 permanent jobs, as well as another 500 permanent jobs if the casino adds poker and table games.

Simple math: The construction jobs for the proposed Slot Barn are overstated, just as they claim in Boston.

3,750 Slot Machine - 1200 jobs claimed = + 3.125 Slot Machines per job, without considering shifts and weekends.

Since each Slot Machine permanently removes + 1 jobs from the local economy, this is a net loser.
