No Eastie Casino!

Tomorrow (Saturday), from 9-11 a.m., join your neighbors in all of East Boston's business districts as we visit corner stores, shops, restaurants, hairdressers, and other neighborhood businesses to make sure they know exactly how a casino at Suffolk Downs is likely to impact them. A $500 million - $1 billion casino in East Boston -- with its restaurants, shops, nightclubs and bars -- would have drastic effects on local businesses. Come by the square closest to you (Maverick, Central, Day or Orient Heights at 9 a.m. sharp to receive materials and further instructions!) See you there!

Here's what some casino insiders say about how small businesses are affected:
"People will spend a tremendous amount of money in casinos, money that they would normally spend on buying a refrigerator or a new car. Local businesses will suffer because they lose customer dollars to the casinos."
Donald Trump, casino owner, "The Jackpot State", The Miami-Herald, March 27, 1994

“Make no mistake: the delicatessen down the street is going to go out of business. The nightclub around the corner is going to go out of business. Nothing the
Massachusetts Gaming Commission can do is going to change that.”
Steve Perskie, Fmr. Chair, New Jersey Casino Control Commission, May 3, 2012
