Educamacational Forum 2 Steve Perskie

Great book!

Well footnoted and researched.

David Cay Johnston, a Republican economist who has written some great stuff had much to say about the influence of Steve Perskie on the New Jersey Gambling Commission, wrote "Temples of Chance How America Inc. Bought Out Murder Inc. to Win Control of the Casino Business."

Not what you think.

Maybe the Massachusetts Gambling Commission should conduct their due diligence before accepting what is offered.

You know? That "Trust, but verify" thing?

It works both ways. It's time to 'part the clouds' with some truth.

Steve Perskie, now retired judge on New Jersey's dole, re-wrote history to pretend.

Maybe it's time for the Massachusetts Gambling Commission to do its due diligence.

No single question was asked of "Judge" Perskie that indicated any research.

There's far more written that the Gambling Commission ignored that indicates their failures to inform themselves.

This seems like another sham.

Hmmmm.......

Steve Perskie, Yale educated, was the 1977 sponsor of the Casino

Control Act, instrumental in the 1976 passage of the statewide

referendum after its previous failure.

When fired as Governor Florio's chief of staff, he was named

commission chairman.

Perskie promoted gambing as Assemblyman, then Senator and

successfully proved that strict regulation of the casino industry

was a false promise.

Fred Trump illegally purchased $3 million in casino chips to keep

Trump afloat December 17, 1990, with Perskie's fore knowledge.

The transaction was not recorded.

The purchase was intended as an 'advance on his inheritance' to

enable Trump to make the Castle's December mortgage payment.

"When the Casino Control Act was adopted in 1977 its promise was that

no one would be allowed to put money into the casino or takie it out

without a license, without having their background investigated. This

principle was the bedrock of the entire regulatory system and the promise

that gambling could be a good industry for New Jersey. But now the

law had become a hindrance to Donald Trump and the man who as an

assemblyman had sponsored the law, Perskie, was doing his best to help

Trump get around it."

pages 289-290

In April 1991, Perskie personally approve Trump's re-licensing, his

personal qualifications and those of his 3 Atlantic City casinos,

in spite of a report indicating financial insolvency.

Perskie said, " It is obvious that neither Trump, the Trump organization

nor the Taj can satisfy the mandate of the Casino Control Act that

they establish their financial stability by clear and convincing evidence."

" "Even before DeVesa's report was finished Armstrong, a Republican

was named to the Superior Court by Perskie's patron, Governor

James Florio, a Democrat. Water's term expired that fall and

Florio replaced him with a lobbyist for the school teachers unions

who had worked closely with Perskie when he was the governor's

chief of staff.

The two commissioners who dared point out that the emperor had

no clothes were gone and with them went the pretense of "strict

regulation," the vow that obeidience to the law would prevail over

economic interests. "Strict regulation" had been just another

politician's promise, torn apart piece by piece and finally swept into

the dust bin of history. "
