Friends,
Today, I again stood in opposition to an East Boston
casino, but beyond that, I proposed an alternative. Our next mayor must not only
be bold enough to talk about our problems, but also responsible enough to work
towards solutions. This morning, I took that first step by proposing a plan for
an East Boston Innovation District, one that provides good jobs with good wages
that will grow our community as well as our economy.
We
are better than a casino, but we are also better than a problem without a
solution. By no means is my proposal the end of the discussion. It is merely the
beginning of a conversation on how to best utilize prime real estate that has an
opportunity to play a big part in the future of our city. I welcome alternative
plans for economic growth, but we must make sure that whatever is built on the
Suffolk Downs land serves our neighborhoods and families.
A
