How can voters make an informed decision?
Plainville continues to make itself the BUTT of jokes!
Plainville Selectmen vote to go ahead with Sept. 10th vote.
At tonight's board of selectmen's meeting, Andrea Soucy, Rob Rose, and Bob Fennessey voted to go ahead with a September 10th referendum on slots at Plainridge "in case" another applicant can be "found" to take over the Host Community Agreement that Plainridge made with Plainville.
Another applicant can be found as late as September 10th and have the vote be valid. ...
According to MGC regulations, a referendum can be held, even if the new applicant hasn't been fully vetted by the MGC. So we could potentially be voting for an applicant who — again — won't pass muster with the MA Gaming Commission.
Even if they have been vetted, what the MGC is comfortable with might not be what the people of Plainville want in our town. We won't have time to find out much more about the new applicant beyond the fact that they had the money to buy-out Plainridge.
Plainridge, the selectmen, and Joe Fernandes have always touted the fact that we "know Plainridge" and that they have been "good neighbors" for so many years. Now they're willing to shove a complete unknown down the throats of Plainville.
So, in may ways we're back to square one. Do you think we should go back to our plans for signs, leafletting, and holding a public forum? And, if you do, are you willing to help? Leave your comments here.
