Rhode Island's Predictable Race to the Bottom

Little noticed and not widely reported, Rhode Island's Gambling Predators are seeking expansion, consistent with the Gambling Playbook.

The mission creep occurs when state governments become addicted to Gambling Revenues and are threatened by neighbors.

Regardless of the location, Massachusetts will move to accomplish the same when the sole Slot Barn at Plainridge is threatened by Rhode Island's expansion.

Instead of merely a Slot Barn, Beacon Hill will move to expand to table games, then increase the number of Slots in the endless spiral, all with no input from voters.

Watch! It's predictable! So are the consequences of the downward spiral.

It's in the Playbook!

Casino vote could pit R.I. against Mass.

PROVIDENCE — Rhode Islanders will face several referendums on this year’s ballot that, if passed, would authorize casino games at two slot parlors, repair classrooms at Rhode Island College, and invest in water quality, open space preservation and recreation facilities. It’s the casino question, however, that has attracted the most attention and campaign spending. The Twin River and Newport Grand slot parlors want to add table games like poker and blackjack to compete with casinos now authorized to be built in nearby Massachusetts.
