Bucks County Courier Times - November 15, 2012 - Man jailed for allegedly stealing credit cards
BENSALEM — A Willow Grove man has been charged with stealing an elderly man's credit cards and charging nearly $5,000 on them, said state police at Trevose.
Joseph R. McCaffrey, 24, was jailed late Wednesday by District Judge Robert Wagner on charges of identity theft, robbery, access device fraud and theft.
The charges stem from an incident at Parx Casino at 6:40 p.m. Nov. 7.
State police said McCaffrey sat next to an 82-year-old man, who was playing a slot machine.
When the man opened his wallet, McCaffrey allegedly grabbed it, pushed the man to the floor and ran.
Police said before the man could cancel his Chase Bank Card, it was used successfully three times totaling $4,946. McCaffrey allegedly tried to use the card another 10 times unsuccessfully, police added.
Thanks to surveillance video at the casino, state police were able to find McCaffrey on Wednesday and interviewed him.
He was sent to Bucks County prison in lieu of 10 percent of $150,000 bail.
