There is no Wizard. The streets aren't paved with gold. And the promises were lies. One only needed to look at Atlantic City to see the lies.
Where is the money from Parx Casino? Posted: Thursday, August 30, 2012 For the last few years, homeowners in Bensalem have received a yearly check of $250 for being the host to the casino on Street Road.
Now, I realize that $250 is not a lot of money to the Republican town fathers and our multimillionaire mayor, but to many local citizens, it is important. Today, with high food prices in the supermarkets, gas pushing $4, local school taxes due Aug. 31 and a 8.3 percent unemployment rate, it was a little help that we counted on receiving.
But this year, it just never came, with no explanation to the residents either in the paper or by letter from our mayor to date. Now, I am a reasonable man, but I think that we are entitled to an explanation of what happened to the money. All these funds are public money, and now it is time for a public audit of these funds for the last few years by a reputable auditing firm not connected to the township. We are entitled to know the total amount received and a complete breakdown of the disbursement of all of the money received from the casino.
For years, I have heard rumors of a very large rainy day fund, sort of a piggy bank to hide money in until it is used. Is that where our money is hidden?
I am requesting this paper and whatever state official should be doing oversight of the residents' money to conduct an audit of the Parx Casino funds for the last three years. I am not inferring fraud at this time, but aren't we allowed under the Sunshine Law to know where the money is?
