#1 Low wage jobs: As Frank Fahrenkopf spoke.....

It required massive self-control to stifle the gasps and snickers and outbursts in response to his outrageous comments in various places during Mr. FF's powerpoint presentation.

Mr. FF is paid a gazillion dollars and does his job well - shoveling manure in an expensive suit.

Mr. FF indicated that he had forwarded packets of misinformation to each of the Commissioners - Wow! Wonder what was in that propaganda? Will that be posted on the Gambling Commission's web site for factual refutation?

Carefully crafted in his presentation was a zing at OPPONENTS as being Religious Zealots!

Ahhh....the familiar argument to discount factual discussion!

If you review ALL of the information contained within this venue, you will find several from religious sources that raise substantive arguments. Is that ZEALOTRY by Mr. FF's definition?

Beyond that, you will find experiential articles and reports substantiating the betrayal of Government to fulfill its compact with its citizens by promoting PREDATORY GAMBLING.

Mr. FF's presentation was filled with misleading, Industry-crafted statistics that are apparently duplicated in the propaganda packages.

There are several significant myths that urgently require debunking.

LOW WAGE JOBS!

How many times have we heard the pretense of reasonable wages?

Mr. FF indicated that the AVERAGE SALARY was $42K.

OK! So, hope you didn't have a mouthful when you read that laughable comment.

This entire section pertains to LOW WAGE JOBS.

Did you hear about this one?

The best thing Florida could do, Kindt asserts, would be to not only scrap the destination resort bills, but also remove slots and legalized gambling entirely. When Russia closed down thousands of casinos in 2009, that nation’s economy improved, says Kindt. “Crime, bankruptcy, and gambling addiction were on the rise,” he notes. “That’s why Russia shut down the casinos. And most important, they [casinos] were killing their economy.”
But I digress.

Do you remember Spectrum? Everyone genuflects and respects Spectrum's results. Governor Slot Barns even spent $189,000 of your hard-earned taxpayer dollars in the first Fairy Tale report that overstated revenue projections and exaggerated job creation to justify the Governor's Folly.

Spectrum prepared a report for the State of Connecticut (Dept. of Special Revenue: DOSR) that was limited in scope because the state is so cash-strapped.

The report is worth reading, available in its entirety on the USS Mass web site.

From: CT: Spectrum Gaming Report #11 Low Wage Jobs

A study prepared for the Eastern Connecticut Chamber of Commerce in 2007 arrived at conclusions similar to ours. The study estimated that the two casinos were
responsible for a total of 29,040 jobs in 2007, about 10 percent less than our
figure.

Well....OK! Average those salaries together and maybe you get $42K per year, a misleading snapshot. There is no delineation of part-time jobs, a common Gambling Industry practice, no indication of turnover, a common issue in low wage jobs and no indication of how many workers were recruited from overseas because the jobs pay so poorly.

It should be noted that those numbers are outdated because Foxwoods has since defaulted and Mohegan Sun is in deep financial doo!
