195,000 Gambling Addicts

Thousands of British Columbians Suffer from Severe Gambling Addiction
Submitted by Annabel Tautou

If one goes by the figures available for British Columbia; it won’t be hard to notice, but people residing in BC seem to have a gambling problem. Apparently, 43,000 people living in the province happen to suffer from severe gambling addictions.

Addressing the Vancouver city council on Monday, Dr. John Crasley further informed that 152,000 British Columbians had a moderate gambling addiction. He further went on to say that it was doubtable to ascertain whether a massive casino expansion will further aggravate the problem or won’t have any negative effect on the gambling habits of people.

He furthers said that such an approximate can only be made if further research was carried out on the effects of gambling.

Dr. Crasley was accompanied with the Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Patricia Dally at the meeting.

The comments made by Crasley were a part of a public hearing that has reached into its third day and basically revolves around the question whether the Edgewater Casino in downtown Vancouver should be given the green signal for further expansion. According to the information available, the casino is looking to expand its operations and turn the current site into a casino complex and $500 million hotel.
