Vancouver opposes Cowlitz Indian casino
VANCOUVER, Wash. – The city of Vancouver is joining Clark County in a lawsuit seeking to block The Cowlitz Tribe from building a casino near La Center, a few minutes drive from Portland.
The Oregonian reports the appeal filed in federal court Monday in Washington, D.C., argues the Bureau of Indian Affairs doesn't have authority to approve the tribe's plan.
Two property owners, four La Center card rooms and the group Citizens Against Reservation Shopping also oppose the casino.
The project is backed by the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority. The Cowlitz Tribe won federal approval in December.
