Report Says Casino Is Bad For Buffalo
By: Jaclyn Asztalos
The Seneca Gaming Corporation has hinted that they will resume construction on the Buffalo Creek Casino this year. Now, an anti-gambling coalition called Citizens for a Better Buffalo is re-igniting their fight against the venue. A report that came out on Tuesday supports the coalition's claims.
Citizens for a Better Buffalo asked Niagara University Professor Steve Siegel to address the Buffalo Common Council regarding his report that said the casino would be harmful to the city. Seigel states that the casino is "a money sucking vacuum".
Although the new casino is projected to bring in millions of dollars and jobs, Seigel said it would actually take more employment and revenue away from the surrounding businesses. He said for every three video slot machines in any Casino within three years of operation, the area would lose two jobs in the local economy.
Now the Seneca Nation is defending the casino, claiming it will bring $200 million in revenue and 1400 jobs.
The Citizens for a Better Buffalo is part of a larger group that has filed a lawsuit in Federal Court to shut down Seneca Buffalo Casino altogether.
