Gambling addict jailed for stealing

Gambling addict jailed for stealing £76k at work

A woman who stole £76,000 from a Newmarket company to fund her internet gambling addiction has been jailed.

Lucienne Mainey, 41, of Hurdles Way, Duxford, was sentenced to 16 months in prison by Ipswich Crown Court yesterday after admitting six counts of fraud by false representation and asking for 25 similar offences to be taken into consideration.

The court heard Mainey, paid herself £76,081 last year as an accounts administrator for APD Ltd by changing old invoices and making the payments to her account.

Ian James, mitigating, said Mainey had no previous convictions and had turned to internet bingo following the breakdown of her marriage.

Judge Peter Fenn ordered her assets, which totalled £800, should be paid to APD Ltd in compensation.
