Poor Holyoke!

Holyoke has the highest poverty rate among Massachusetts cities at 26.4%, that is MORE than 1 out of 5 people in Holyoke living in poverty.

In Holyoke, 44.8% of the children live in poverty, compared to 12.8% state wide. This is almost half.

Most money lost in casinos comes from the people living closest to the casino. The poorer you are, the greater the proportion of your money likely to be spent on gambling.

The more money lost in a casino in Holyoke, the more people will fall into deeper levels poverty.

More poverty, more crime, more drug and alcohol problems and a greater proportion of money spent on gambling.

The political leaders of Holyoke obviously have failed to conduct their due diligence about the economic and social realities of increasing the availability of gambling in their community.
