Anti-Casino Ads in Maine

Anti-Casino Ads in Maine:

With Election Day right around the corner, the anti-casino constituents in the state of Maine have begun to speak out. Opponents have launched a commercial, paid for by the CasinosNo group, in order to protest the inclusion of casinos in Oxford County.

The new commercial highlights some facts that are not commonly known, primarily that residents of Maine have shot down the casino four times in the last ten years. The commercial urges that Maine will not benefit from the casinos as well as advertised.

Question One is the is the ballot issue that corresponds to casino gambling in Oxford county. Proponents are still firing hard in order to bring a casino into the county, citing construction and permanent jobs, revenue without taxes, and tourism as advantages.

CasinosNo has also made the claim that the numbers for the revenue generated and the jobs created are inaccurate. They claim that the actual figures would be lower, and they would not offset the social ills that typically come with gambling, and that, on their website slot machines are “not entertainment” but are “…part of a scam.”
