The Kansas Coalition on Problem Gambling will hold a workshop on gambling-related suicides on Feb. 6 at the American Red Cross Midway-Kansas Chapter, 1900 E. Douglas, in Wichita.

The workshop, to be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., will include a presentation about gambling-related suicides, a panel of survivors of gambling-related suicide, and a suicide prevention resource.

Joyce Markham, president of the coalition, said problem gamblers have a suicide rate of more than 20 percent, which is higher than any other clinical population. A recent report from the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services shows that nearly 23 percent of people who enter treatment for problem gambling reported they were suicidal, or had thoughts about harming themselves, she said.

Registration for the workshop is $25. The fee includes lunch, handouts and certificates of attendance.  http://www.kansas.com/2013/01/31/2657444/coalition-on-problem-gambling.html
