Failing Plainridge submits Slot Barn Application

Posted: Thursday, August 9, 2012
PLAINVILLE - Plainridge Racecourse formally began the process of applying for a slot machine license by submitting a check for $400,000 to the state Gaming Commission.
The non-refundable deposit is required to show that the applicant is serious, and opens the way for dealing with state agencies on issues related to creating a slot machine parlor, or racino.
A harness horse track, Plainridge wants the only license the state is offering to operate 1,250 slot machines, in addition to its racing and simulcasting business.

"We believe we have the single best location in the commonwealth to support a premier facility with Class II slot activity, live horse racing and simulcast wagering," track President Gary Piontkowski said.

"We are fully financed and eager to begin the process of job creation for the town of Plainville and the commonwealth."

The owner of Raynham Park, a former greyhound racing track, has also said he would like to apply for the slot machine license.
