The government is planning to do a deal - it will change the law to allow Sky City to have more pokie machines in exchange for a new convention centre in Auckland.

Sky City would build the $350 million convention centre, in return it would get to install up to 500 extra pokie machines.

Some say it's a deal with the devil. Pokies are already thought to be responsible for a considerable amount of problem gambling in New Zealand. But Sky City argues that playing gaming machines is much safer in the casino than in the pubs and clubs.
