TAUNTON — The chairman of the Massachusetts Gam[bl]ing Commission is coming to Taunton to talk casinos and slot machines in June.

Gam[bl]ing Commission Chairman Stephen Crosby will be the guest speaker at the June 19 installment of the breakfast series sponsored by Pro-Home, the Taunton-based nonprofit housing counseling agency, and the Taunton Area Chamber of Commerce.

“It should be interesting,” said Joseph Pacheco, executive director of Pro-Home, who is also a Raynham selectman. “(Crosby) was appointed by the governor, and he’s the chairman of a panel that will be overseeing a multi-billion dollar industry.”

The Gam[bl]ing Commission held its first meeting on Tuesday.

Pacheco said the speech is set to be Crosby’s first visit to southeastern Massachusetts since being named chairman. Pacheco said the event will be particularly important for the area, after news about a potential casino location in either Taunton, Fall River, Freetown, Lakeville and other locations, along with a possible slot parlor in Raynham.

Kerry Babin, president of the Taunton Area Chamber of Commerce, said there is a lot of excitement over Crosby’s visit.

“We’re ecstatic we were able to secure him,” she said. “It’s just really relevant right now. We continue to strive to bring top level speakers to this area, and our members are benefiting from it.”
