The more you learn....

the more you oppose Predatory Gambling that depends on creating NEW Gamblers and creating NEW Gambling Addicts.

Gambling Opposition is growing as more people learn that this will increase crime, increase drunk drivers making all of us innocent targets, and destroy local businesses that can no longer compete with subsidized meals.

Foxborough to allow Wynn to present casino plan
By: NBC 10 News

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. --
A divided Foxborough Board of Selectmen has voted to allow Las Vegas gambling mogul Steve Wynn to directly pitch his billion-dollar casino proposal to the town.

Foxborough selectmen met Tuesday night to work out the details for a public forum on a proposed casino near Gillette Stadium.

The board voted 3-2 at a boisterous and sometimes contentious meeting attended by about 500 people to allow Wynn to present his plan

"I really don't think they should have it. The traffic is bad as it is. Half the time when they're having games, you can't even leave the house," said Lorenda Clark, a Foxborough resident.

New England Patriots' owner Robert Kraft and Las Vegas hotel mogul Steve Wynn are in talks about building $1 billion resort casino on 200 acres of land that Kraft owns near Gillette Stadium.

"I'm just totally against it. I don't see what good it's going to bring Foxborough," said Sarene Doherty, a Foxborough resident.

Wynn said
[low wage] jobs is what he'll bring to Foxborough -- thousands of them -- both at the resort and for those needed to build it. He said locals would get preferential treatment in the hiring process.

"There are a whole number of residents who are outraged about this. A whole host of us are," said Stephanie Crimmins.

Crimmins is part of the No Foxboro Casino group that recently ignited online but now shows signs of growing even stronger.

"When you're listening to people who have tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars on the line that things like this, the job growth, the construction jobs, will get overstated. We're very concerned that that is the truth," Crimmins said.

Wynn said Monday in a letter delivered to about 8,000 Foxborough homes that gambling would be just a small portion of the facility's overall square footage, which would include hotels, spas and restaurants.
[and destroy all local businesses]

Board Chairman Larry Harrington says given the Krafts history with the town, they deserve to be heard.

Casino opponents say the issue is tearing the town apart, with neighbor turning against neighbor and anti-casino signs in town being burned.

Wynn will present his plan to residents on Jan. 10.
