Promises are not guarantees

One of the promises to promote Gambling is that Gambling Addiction Programs will be fully funded. Faced with budget shortfalls, it's one of the places that suffers, tossing rosy promises aside.
It was one of the many false promises House Speaker "Racino" DeLeo promoted, immediately after restoring slashed funding to Massachusetts' currently underfunded program.

E. Ind. hospital closing addiction program

RICHMOND, Ind. — An eastern Indiana probation officer says he's disappointed by a Richmond hospital's decision to close its outpatient addiction treatment program and the closure will reduce the treatment options for offenders.

Wayne County assistant chief probation officer Kory George calls Reid Hospital's move to close its Aurora program by Jan. 31 is troubling. He told the Palladium-Item the program's services for drug, alcohol and gambling addiction represent one of the main referral sources for the probation department.

Reid Hospital president Craig Kinyon said closing Aurora is part of planned cutbacks heading into the 2011 budget year. Reid officials said they're confident that local agencies and regional addiction service providers will be able to pick up Aurora's clients.
