NEWTON -- The Sussex County Board of Chosen Freeholders will hold a public hearing Wednesday on a $3.2 million bond issue for capital projects for the coming year and introduce two other bond ordinances.
The board's meeting is at 5 p.m., in the Administrative Center, 1 Spring St.
The two bond issues being introduced, and scheduled for a public hearing on June 10, involve $8.33 million for further capital improvements as part of the county's regular capital program and a smaller bond issue of $130,000 for improvements and replacement of greenhouses at Sussex County
Technical School in Sparta.
In regular action, the board will be asked to approve a series of resolutions on a streetscape project for Hopatcong along Hopatchung Road, which is county Route 607.
While the county is not putting any money into the project, there needs to be an agreement over future maintenance and other responsibilities for the work being done as well as closing part of the street during construction.
The board will consider a resolution calling on the state to put extra funds in the 2016 budget to offset casino revenue losses. Casino revenue is supposed to fund the senior and disabled citizens transportation assistance programs.
As part of the agreement to allow casino gambling decades ago, the state and casino operators agreed that a percentage of proceeds from Atlantic City's gambling would be directed toward the transportation.
However, as casino revenues have dropped over the past few years, so has the aid to those programs and the resolution asks the state to bring funding back to the 2012 levels.
Such additional funding would be worth about $131,000 to the county's Skylands Ride program which provides transportation for shopping, medical appointments and other needs.
The freeholders are also being asked to appoint Joe Zbirblis as a consumer advocate member to the Community Transit Citizens Advisory Committee to fill the unexpired term of Marie Raffay which ends Dec. 31.
The board is also expected to appoint Rachel Helt, Donald E. Prout and Vance Mulholland to three-year terms on the Advisory Committee on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse.
